Caito Ortiz was born in Rio de Janeiro and studied film at New York University. In 2003, his first feature, the documentary Motoboys: Vida loca (2003), won Best Documentary at the 27º São Paulo International Film Festival . His next documentary about the peace game between Brazil and Haiti, O Dia em Que o Brasil Esteve Aqui (2005), was exhibited on the 29ª São Paulo International Film Festival and at Cuba's Festival del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano. On TV, his original fiction series (fdp) (2012) is an award winning co-production between Prodigo and HBO. Freedom Station (2013), a ficction story that takes place in between São Paulo and Tokyo marked his feature film debut. Jules and Dolores (2016) is Caito Ortiz second feature film.
